Covid-19 News Updates

The MEBA Plans are here for you during the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis. While you are used to hearing a live voice answering the phone, there is an auto attendant answering the calls now. This is to keep our staff safe so we can continue to support the membership. Calls and emails are being routed to the appropriate staff to handle. We are still processing pension applications, medical claims and vacation claims. You may experience a minor delay but everything is being handled. Please bear with us as we continue to support you. Thanks for keeping our ships sailing! Please stay safe.

In accordance with the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, the MEBA Medical & Benefits Plan will provide coverage for COVID-19 diagnostic testing without imposing any cost sharing requirements (such as copays, coinsurance, or copays) effective immediately.

  • MEBA Plans is committed to keeping the MEBA vessels moving, ensuring our members are ready to sail and maintaining safe environments for members, staff and our communities alike. In light of recent developments and with guidance from the trustees, we are making the following changes effective immediately.
  • The MEBA Diagnostic Clinics are now scheduling physical appointments for all Eligible Employees (and their Eligible Dependents) and Pensioners (and their Eligible Dependents). In order to keep our staff safe we will be scheduling no more than four appointments each day. The Oakland Clinic will cease dental appointments for now. Facemasks are required  to be worn when entering the MEBA Diagnostic Centers and should be worn at all times during your visit.
  • Contact the Calhoon MEBA Engineering School for any questions regarding classes, they will continue to monitor the situation.
  • We strongly encourage members to submit their Vacation and Port Relief claims and questions by email, fax or mail where possible. If a member cannot submit claim documents remotely, please call to make an appointment so that we can maintain adequate social distancing. This applied to the outports and the Plan Office and will help us protect members and staff. We will continue to process Pension checks, Vacation checks, Port Relief checks and Medical claims. Please consider adding direct deposit to your Pension/Vacation/Port Relief records to facilitate timely delivery of the payments. Vacation and Port Relief paper checks may be processed once or twice a week, so direct deposit would be preferable.
  • We hope to minimize the impact on our membership and staff while taking steps to curtail the spread of the virus. The above provisions are based on the information that is available today and is subject to change as government mandates may require.
